本研究主要在改善目前的串流機制，利用行動裝置(本研究以PDA為主要對象)取代目前盛行的以個人電腦處理收發串流媒體服務的工作。在作業系統系統方面，將IPAQ POCKET PC H3970原本的作業系統轉換為Familiar 之Linux版本，搭配MPEG-4與其他相關GPL下之編解碼程式，最後以VLC之命令模式為介面，完成Unicast/Multicast與隨選視訊(VOD)等多媒體串流服務，使PDA完全取代個人電腦串流服務的工作，最終建構出更具行動力的行動裝置多媒體串流系統。

The study uses mobile devices (PDA in this study) instead of desktop PCs to stream and receive multimedia streams for the purpose of improving current multimedia streaming architecture. This Study replaced the operation system of ipaq pocket pc h3970 from wince to familiar linux. With MPEG-4 and other related codecs, the study fulfill the Unicast / Multicast and video-on-demand functions via VLC’s command line interface. This mobile-based multimedia streaming system successfully replaced desktop PC’s role for streaming service, and has much more advantages than old ones.
